Versus the Week of June 1

By June 4, 2020Versus The Week

Hey guys, Maevri here!

This has been a really difficult week for many people, and I’m not trying to discount or avoid that. I pushed out releasing this blog to give space to the messages the really need to be heard right now. I’m here to give y’all an update on some things happening at Versus Evil that I can actually talk about, and then I’m going to step back so more important voices can be heard right now. I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy and hydrated! Now let’s get into it –

Wintermoor Tactics Club

Supporting artists of all skill levels

We’ve got more commissioned art to share with everyone! First up is this illustration from Hannah Templer, which really encompasses the magic of playing a tabletop game. Everyone crowded around the game, excited and anxious as the enemies start to close in. Every time I look at it I’m tempted to put together a D&D group and start a new campaign. Thank you Hannah for so perfectly capturing the Tactics Club!

I love this. Wintermoor Tactics Club is a game about imagination and creativity and fighting for what’s right. Thank you Starqazers for this side by side of Alicia and her Curses & Catacombs character Anjaya!

You don’t have to be a professional artist to make Wintermoor art! There are some pretty great horse drawings that have been submitted by players all over the world, and most of them are much better than the horror show I managed to come up with during my playthrough (maybe if you ask really nicely I’ll share it one day). Take a look at some of the submissions below, and if you have any content you’d like to share with us or the Developers, please tweet at us or use #Wintermoor so we can make sure to show you some love!

Last week’s patch was a small one but notably it fixed an issue with Steam achievements some folks reports. As always you can communicate directly with the team about any questions or issues you have through the Wintermoor channel in the Versus Evil Discord server.

Patch Notes:

  • Achievements previously earned but not awarded will be awarded next time you load the game and play a cutscene.
  • GOG: Achievements should now correctly unlock.
  • Fixed issue with capital “I” not rendering for some regions. Thanks to our users for reporting this.
  • Various small bugfixes

Something’s coming….

Guerrilla Collective June 6-8

Guerrilla Collective is finally happening! This week, starting on June 6 at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET / 6 pm GMT we will be part of a digital conference focused on Indie Game Developers and Publishers. We’re working with a fantastic group of people to bring you what’s new and coming soon in the world of indies.

And keep your eyes peeled for a brand new announcement from us…

You can learn more about the event by visiting the Guerrilla Collective website, and you can watch live on the official Guerrilla Collective Twitch Channel.

Black Lives Matter

Now and as always, Versus Evil stands against injustice of all forms. To be crystal clear, we do not tolerate racism or hate in our community. We stand behind and support the Black Lives Matter movement completely. To that end, I’d like to say that we are always looking for ways to support members of this industry whose voices may not always be heard over the crowd.

If you are or know a black game developer looking for a publisher, please send pitch decks to you@vsevil.net. While there’s no strict template for these pitches, it’s important to include at least some of the following:

  • Deck or Description containing game info/details/design info
  • Production plans and a budget (if you are seeking funding)
  • Playable demo or video of gameplay

You’ve likely seen many links to actions you can take now that will help move us towards a fairer, more compassionate society for everyone. For our part, I ask that you take a moment to check out this website that has a comprehensive list of black game developers. You can also follow this Twitter account that retweets developers. Find some new games and artists, support indie devs, and help some talented people find a bigger platform.

Whether it’s small like setting up an inclusive autohost list on our Twitch channel, sending masks to folks in the community who needed them, or using our resources and platform to give black devs more opportunities, we are vigilant in our fight versus evil. But we know there’s a lot more work to do. We are listening and watching for more ways to help. Our DMs are always open.

Thank you so much for stopping by and reading. As always, if you have any content or questions please feel free to reach out via our socials. You can stay in touch with me and the team by joining our Discord and following us on Twitter and Facebook.
