Hey folks, VS Dave here!

You already know the Versus Evil name, but who exactly are the people hard at work behind the scenes to bring you the best indie games around? Well, allow us to formally introduce ourselves!

This week, we’re continuing the series with Kirk, Marketing Producer extraordinaire. He’s like air traffic control for asset creation, and the one we go to for all custom art requests, which can be anything from social media banners to streamer asset kits to newsletters, and all points in-between.

But that’s not all! Kirk wears many hats here at Versus Evil, however, maybe none more important than his ability to call out those who make Dad jokes in front of the team.

Meet Kirk

Marketing Producer

How long have you been at Versus Evil?

I’ve been with Versus Evil for 2.5 years.

What do you do here?

I work directly with our internal graphic design team and video editors to produce new assets for different games, as well as working with ad agencies on larger projects. I also ensure our main assets are created at the required sizes so we can provide them to all the different digital stores that will carry the game.

Additionally, I’m the point person for getting our Apple and Google Play pages setup for each game as needed, and I also create/manage the Versus Evil newsletters that range from Blogs and Announcements to Sales information.

What’s your favorite game of all time?

This is an extremely difficult question to answer since every game I’ve enjoyed since childhood has added to my likes and dislikes for newer games. Classic arcade games like Asteroids, Space Invaders, Centipede, Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Galaga and Tempest were my favorites of all time way back when… which evolved to Golden Axe, R-Type and R-Type II, which I could beat all three games in the arcade on one quarter, one life. [EDITOR’S NOTE: Humble brag.]

Moving to consoles, games like The Legend of Zelda, Metroid and Sonic the Hedgehog started to shape my love of RPG’s and platforming games, which continued with games like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, the Ratchet & Clank series and LittleBigPlanet. And let’s not forget about the Mario games, almost every single one is a favorite of mine.

The original Tomb Raider sucked me into its story and gameplay mechanics very quickly and kept me immersed throughout. I’ve also played a ton of PC shooters, and I think the original Half Life held my attention for such a long time that I must mention it here. A couple of mobile strategy and real time brawler multiplayer games have kept me entertained for several years now.

And, of course sports games – playing 8-bit Blades of Steel through the 16-bit and beyond NHL series, playing friends in Tecmo Bowl and Super Tecmo Bowl to the Madden series, and working on the WCW, WWF and WWE wrestling games were all great memories and experiences for me.

I don’t have one single favorite game of all time. I love finding new gameplay mechanics inspired by someone’s creativity and only made possible with the latest technology. We’ve come a long way from Asteroids and Space Invaders, and it’s been amazing to grow along with the industry during that time.

If you could design your perfect game, what would it be like?

I think having an open world, story driven Action RPG like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but maybe with a cartoony cel-shaded art style like Wind Waker. Just a game you can sit down and get lost in for hours at a time, or 15 minutes if you don’t have a lot of time.

What do you do for fun outside of work?

I play drums and was in a punk band in Los Angeles for 10 years. That was a long time ago – I still play drums, but not as often as before. I love dogs and have a 2-year-old Great Pyrenes mix who’s 100 pounds and sheds like crazy. And sometimes I like to go to my local Cars & Coffee meets on the weekends and look at some great cars from classics to new supercars.

Do you have any pets?

Felix – Great Pyrenes mixed with Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever. Look at that face! What’s not to love? My kids named him Felix, even though I protested and lost the argument that “Felix” is a cat’s name. They just didn’t understand that. Felix loves to find a place to rest his weary head, even if it looks uncomfortable – he just wants to put his head down and try to sleep.
